SMIC's New Shanghai Plant to Start Production in 2007

According to the China Daily, the Chinese semiconductor company SMIC has planned to complete its 12-inch wafer factory in Shanghai in late 2006 and start test production in 2007, hoping to boost its 12-inch wafer capacity. This production line will have an initial monthly capacity of 5,000 to 6,000 units.

Furthermore, according to Bloomberg, SMIC has signed a MOU with the Wuhan government to build a 12-inch wafer plant in Wuhan. This new plant will be fully funded by the Wuhan government, which will invest between US$1.5 billion and US$3 billion in the project.
